We can’t even begin to tell you how excited we get when we find an all wood child-size table and chair set! We literally get giddy with delight. They just seem so dang hard to find these days.
We figured this little set would be the perfect addition to your Holiday gatherings.
The kiddos won’t mind eating at the kid’s table this year.
Painted in our signature ”Swiss Coffee” and sealed with Tough Coat by Fusion Mineral Paints for a durable yet safe finish.
We lightly distressed the edges for that “Farmhouse” look and to help disguise any distressing that might be done by the little ones. That’s just added patina!
We’ll be delivering to Brothers Antiques North this weekend!
We can’t even begin to tell you how thrilled we were when we lucked out and came across this solid oak bench. We nabbed it up right away. Benches are really hard to find these days. We are always on the lookout for them. So this find really made our day.
We chose to paint this one in our favorite combo, Miss Mustard Seed’s Typewriter Black Milk Paint and hemp oil. Milk paint and hemp oil are like peanut butter and jelly, they just go together. We like to apply the hemp oil with a chip brush and then wet sand it with a fine grit sandpaper. The result is the smoothest finish ever.
We didn’t get any chippy paint this time. You just never know what you are going to get with milk paint. It’s so unpredictable. We could have used some sort of resist and forced some chipping but we like the element of surprise. It’s half the fun of milk paint!
We did sand the edges and give the bench a light distress. We love the way the black looks with the natural wood.

This little lovely will be heading to the booth at Brothers Antiques North later today. It was in really sad shape when we found it. We cleaned it up and added planks to the top for a little more character. It’s painted with our signature white chalk paint, lightly distressed and sealed with clear wax.
We love to add touches of black when decorating. Below are a few pieces we have added to our booth this week. Milk paint gives us that beautiful time worn finish we love so much. Typewriter by Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint is one of our favorites.
Vintage Chair – Sold!Beautiful Distressed Detail
When sanded and sealed with hemp oil milk paint has the smoothest, most luxurious finish.
Hello, friends! Happy February. Spring is just around the corner and that makes us smile!
We are truly excited about this makeover. It is definitely one of our favorites to date.
We found this beauty last year at a local Goodwill store.
We paid a bit more for her than we usually like to pay but it was in excellent condition and just needed a little TLC.
So we cleaned it up and gave it a good sanding. Here it is all ready for it’s makeover.
We chose to paint this piece with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Typewriter Black (in the winter months, we paint inside and prefer to use natural, no to low VOC products whenever we can.)
We were also lucky enough to have Derrick from D Lawless Hardware supply us with these beautiful milk glass knobs. Thank you, Derrick! We thought they would pair perfectly with the vintage style of the piece as well as the black paint.
We mixed the paint with a bonding agent so the paint would not chip. We love us some chippy, just not on this particular piece. Once the paint had dried we sanded the entire piece and finished it with hemp oil. We lightly distressed the edges and other areas that would naturally wear over time.
We stained the wood top using General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain and sealed it with Miss Mustard Seed’s Antiquing Wax.
And here it is….
We decided every desk needs a great chair so we dug this out from our hoard (let’s call it what it is) and gave it a makeover. It is finished the same as the desk/vanity. We replaced all of the foam and batting and covered it with a timeless, classic ticking fabric.
We added welting to the seat edge to give it a finished look.
We lined the drawers with a coordinating fabric.
This piece has such beautiful detail!
The hardware just adds to the classic look we were hoping for.
Love those little feet!
The wood grain is just beautiful!
As always we hope you like this piece as much as we do!
Happy 2019!
We are so happy to finally have a piece available. We’ve been very busy working behind the scenes. There’s been a lot of cleaning, organizing, reorganizing, etc. You know…all the stuff that isn’t too much fun to do but has to get done. Thank goodness that’s done and we can move on to the fun stuff.
One of our goals for 2019 is to work through the pile of furniture we’ve managed to accumulate. No more buying until we reduce some of our current inventory…unless we find something too good to pass up!
Today we are posting a table and chair set for children. We had originally hoped to have it done for the holidays but that didn’t happen! Since it’s been sitting in the garage we decided to go ahead and finish it up anyway.
The table has a solid wood base with a laminate top. The chairs are solid wood.
We started by sanding and prepping the table and chairs. We then primed the laminate top to get a good base for the paint and offer extra durability. Once the primer was dry we painted the set using Behr chalk paint in the color Swiss Coffee.
We then hand sanded the entire set so it would be super smooth. We lightly distressed the set as to mask any natural distressing that may occur from the kiddos.
We applied 3 coats of polycrylic in a matte finish to the tabletop, again for extra durability.
We’ve been wanting to do a little table and chair set for awhile now. So we were pretty excited when we found this little set.
It was solid wood and had loads of potential.
We started by giving the table and chairs a good cleaning and thorough sanding. We decided to give the set a “Farmhouse” look.
The chairs and table legs are painted with our favorite white chalk paint.
Sanded smooth and lightly distressed to help camouflage any distressing that might be done by the little ones.
Being as this set is for children we chose to use milk paint to stain the top because it contains no additives or distillates that can harm you or the environment. We finished the entire piece by sealing it with all natural, food safe hemp oil.
The table measures 22”H x 27”W
The chairs measure 27”H (chair backs). The seat measures 13”H x 14”W
We love these little shelves! They are so versatile. This solid wood shelf is ready to hang on the wall or set on any table or dresser top. Once again in our excitement to get painting we forgot to get a before picture. I guess we found our resolution for next year.
We were really struggling with the lighting today. Hopefully we were able to do the piece justice.
Painted in our signature DIY chalk paint using Behr Swiss Coffee and sanded smooth.
We lightly distressed to make the details pop.
We finished this piece with Behr white wax and hand buffed for a beautiful satin finish
