Milk Painted Chest of Drawers

We scooped this piece up as soon as we saw it. We fell in love with the six equal size drawers and the lovely wood knobs, perfect for that timeless cottage look that we adore.

Before

To us, milk paint seemed like the perfect finish for this chest of drawers. We wanted to keep it light and neutral so we went with a custom blend of Proper by Sweet Pickins Milk Paint and Hotel Robe by Fusion Mineral Paints. We love the color Proper, we just wanted to lighten it up some for this particular piece.

Luckily, the milk paint did it's thing and we got some chippy paint!

Once the paint was dry we sanded everything down with 400 grit sandpaper to get a smooth finish. We then sealed the paint with hemp oil, our favorite finish for milk paint.

All six drawers have been cleaned and sanded inside and out for a fresh new look. We then hydrated & conditioned the wood with Big Mama's Butta in the scent Orange Grove. The smell is divine!

While cleaning and sanding down the drawers we found this sweet inscription inside one of the drawer fronts. Of course, we sanded around it and left it intact. Maybe it will be a sweet little surprise for someone else to find in another 70 years.

Finally, we finished by adding coordinating drawer liners to all six drawers. This ticking fabric was absolutely the perfect finishing touch for this dresser.

We really struggled with lighting on this one. We took pictures on different days trying to catch the right light between sun & clouds, the weather hasn't been very cooperative lately. If you think you might be interested in this piece we'd highly recommend stopping in at Brothers Antiques North and taking a look. This color is truly a chameleon depending on the lighting. We did our best!
